Riaz Ahmed is Group Head and Chief Financial Officer, TD Bank Group as of January 2, 2016. He oversees Finance, Chief Accountant’s department, Strategic Sourcing, Enterprise Real Estate, Treasury and Balance Sheet Management, Corporate Development, Economics and Strategy. Riaz joined TD in 1996 as an investment banker with TD Securities’ infrastructure and independent power team. In 1999, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer and subsequently Vice Chair and Chief Administrative Officer for TD Securities. As CAO, he oversaw the Finance, Operations, Risk and Technology groups for TD’s Wholesale Banking business. In November 2004, Riaz was appointed Senior Vice President, Corporate Development. As a member of the Senior Executive Team since August 2009, Riaz guided TD’s bank acquisition and treasury strategies.
Before assuming his current role, Riaz led two key growth businesses from 2013 to 2015 as Group Head Insurance, Credit Cards, and Enterprise Strategy. Prior to joining TD, Riaz was Vice President and Director, Corporate Finance with Citibank Canada. He joined Citibank from Financial Trustco, a financial services conglomerate and merchant bank.
Riaz holds a Bachelor of Commerce (with Distinction) from the University of Calgary. He started his career at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) and obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1985. In 2013, Riaz was elected as a Fellow
Chartered Accountant (FCA) by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Riaz is involved in a number of charitable activities in his community and co-chaired TD’s United Way fundraising campaigns in 2013 and 2014. He is a passionate promoter of inclusivity and diversity in the workplace and chaired the Inclusion and Diversity Leadership Council at TD from 2015 to May 2018. Riaz serves on the Board of Directors of the Aga Khan Museum and is Chairman of the Aga Khan Foundation Canada, National Committee.
Riaz grew up in Tanzania and later Alberta. He lives in Toronto with his wife and they have two grown children.
